Sustainable Solutions for a
Safer Planet
Blu Ethos is a sustainability consultancy helping companies turn environmental responsibility into measurable business improvement.
From reducing carbon and resource use to improving water efficiency and environmental performance, we help businesses identify practical opportunities that deliver both environmental and commercial value.
Alongside our consultancy services, we have developed BluSeal™, our environmental certification framework designed to assess, improve and recognise responsible water management and wider environmental performance at manufacturing sites.
BluSeal™ Certification
Stand out with a verifiable standard. We guide you through the process of qualifying for the BluSeal trademark, proving your commitment to low-water production.

BluSeal™ Certification
An independent certification developed by Blu Ethos to recognise manufacturers that actively reduce their water footprint, providing clear evidence to move beyond general sustainability claims.
- Measure and verify embodied water within products
- Identify strategic opportunities for reduction
- Demonstrate verifiable water efficiency improvements
- Gain global recognition for responsible management
Global Trade, Hidden Water
Global trade creates a complex network where resources are moved across borders every day. Behind every product is a vast, often invisible volume of water consumed during its creation and transport.
How water moves with goods
Why it matters
- Products are made across multiple countries, from raw materials to final assembly.
- Water used at each stage “travel” with goods as they are traded globally.
- This is known as “virtual water trade” and forms part of a product’s water footprint.
- Crops grown and materials extracted in water-stressed areas can use thousands of litres of scarce water.
- Importing countries may have plenty of water, but the products they buy often rely on water from stressed regions.
- As supply chains grow, these hidden water flows become more significant and risky.
- Understanding embodied water shows where water is used in supply chains and where to improve.
BluSeal™ builds on water footprint thinking to give manufacturers a structured way to measure, manage and reduce the water embedded in their products.

What is Embodied Water?
Embodied water - sometimes referred to as virtual water - describes the total amount of freshwater used and impacted throughout the production of a product.
This includes the water required to grow raw materials, process components, manufacture goods, and move them through global supply chains.
